TUNDRA infrared sauna indoors in a Singapore apartment

Updated 14 October 2026. Prices and specifications are taken from the TUNDRA product pages on that date.

This guide starts with the most common situation in Singapore: a sauna inside a flat, in a spare bedroom, a study or a corner of the living room. It covers what fits in an HDB flat or a condo, what power each type of sauna needs, and what to check with HDB or your MCST. Outdoor and Finnish builds for gardens, roof terraces and landed homes follow after that.

The short answer

  • HDB flat or condo, indoors: a compact infrared cabin that plugs into a standard socket. The Equinox is built for this. It measures 95 x 95 cm for one person or 120 x 100 cm for two, stands 1.95 m high and draws about 7 A from a 13 A socket. From S$5,590.
  • Condo or landed home, indoors or outdoors, one person: the Valo, an infrared cabin with glass on three sides and two red light panels. It is hard-wired to its own 20 A circuit. S$15,900.
  • Finnish heat indoors, one or two people: the Ounas, a compact Finnish sauna with a wall-mounted Harvia stove and a Harvia Xenio control, 100 or 120 cm wide and 105 cm deep. It is hard-wired to its own 16 A or 20 A circuit. S$7,090 (1 person) or S$8,090 (2 persons).
  • Finnish heat indoors, two to three people: the Ignis, an infrared system and a Harvia 4.5 kW stove in one cabin, hard-wired to a 25 A circuit. S$18,900.
  • Garden, roof terrace or pool deck: the Haven, an outdoor Finnish sauna in Canadian red cedar with a Harvia Spirit 6 kW heater. S$21,490.
  • No fixed installation: a portable steam sauna, the Caldera (from S$1,388) or the Vapora (S$490).

How to choose: four questions

1. How much room do you have?

Measure the floor, the ceiling height and the space in front of the door. For the Equinox, keep about 60 cm clear in front of the glass for the door, and allow a ceiling of about 2.1 m so the roof panel can be lifted on during assembly. A one person Equinox with its door space needs a floor area of about 95 x 155 cm.

Sauna capacity is quoted in persons. If one person will use it most days, a one person cabin is enough. If two people want to sit together, choose the two person Equinox, or the Ignis for two to three.

2. What power can you give it?

A standard 13 A socket at 230 V can supply up to about 3 kW (13 A x 230 V). That sets the line between a sauna you plug in and one that is hard-wired.

  • Plugs into a socket: the Equinox (1,625 W or 1,760 W, about 7 A) and the portable steam saunas. Plug the cord straight into a grounded socket, without an extension lead or multi-plug, and ideally into a socket that does not also feed a large load such as an air conditioner or water heater.
  • Dedicated circuit: the Ounas (16 A or 20 A), the Valo (20 A), the Ignis (25 A) and the Haven (6 kW heater). The circuit is installed by a Licensed Electrical Worker before our commissioning visit.

In HDB flats, HDB's electrical guidelines state that appliances rated above 15 A are not allowed and that a 20 A isolator is only allowed for air-conditioner installation. A plug-in cabin such as the Equinox avoids these limits. For any hard-wired sauna in an HDB flat, check with HDB first and use a Licensed Electrical Worker.

3. Indoors or outdoors?

Indoors, a sauna needs a dry room with ordinary ventilation and a level floor. Infrared cabins suit flats: they heat the body with radiant panels, the air stays cooler than in a Finnish sauna (the Equinox and Valo are adjustable up to 65 °C), and they add no water to the room. The Equinox is for indoor use only, as its hemlock exterior is not treated for rain or sun.

Outdoors, the cabin has to cope with rain, sun and constant humidity. The Valo has a weatherproof WPC exterior, a waterproof layer in its walls, and stands on eight block feet 70 mm clear of the ground. The Haven has a cedar composite exterior and an asphalt-tile roof over a waterproof membrane. Both stand on a level, free-draining base such as a slab or paving.

4. What is your budget?

Portable steam saunas start at S$490. A compact indoor infrared cabin costs S$5,590 to S$6,590, and a compact indoor Finnish cabin, the Ounas, S$7,090 to S$8,090. Glazed, hybrid and outdoor cabins cost S$15,900 to S$21,490, with delivery and commissioning in Singapore included on the Ounas, Valo and Ignis. Approvals: HDB flats and condos

HDB flats. HDB's renovation guidelines do not mention saunas. A free-standing plug-in cabin is assembled in the room from panels and needs no hacking, tiling, plumbing or new wiring. HDB's building works guidelines list "installation of equipment not exceeding 150 kg" as work that needs no permit, without defining equipment further. The one person Equinox weighs 138 kg net and the two person 170 kg. Check with your HDB branch before you order; we send you the drawings and weights for the enquiry. All electrical work in an HDB flat must be done by a licensed electrical worker. Place the cabin inside your flat, never in the common corridor.

Condos. Under the strata rules, improvements to your unit that affect the appearance of the building need approval from the management corporation (MCST). An indoor cabin does not change the facade. A cabin on a balcony or roof terrace can, so ask your MCST first. Most condos also have their own procedure for renovation and bulky deliveries: forms, deposits, permitted hours and lift booking. Ask your managing agent for the current form. On a balcony or roof terrace, have the floor checked by a qualified engineer. We provide the loading figures: the Valo, for example, puts about 330 kg per square metre on the floor with one person inside.

Finnish sauna or infrared sauna

Infrared

Infrared panels warm the body directly. The cabin air stays cooler than in a Finnish sauna, the heat is dry, and a standard socket is enough for a compact cabin. For these reasons infrared suits most flats. In a study of 16 athletes, a 20-minute infrared sauna after strength training reduced muscle soreness and improved perceived recovery compared with resting (Ahokas et al. 2023, Biology of Sport).

Finnish (traditional)

A Finnish sauna uses an electric heater to warm the air and a bed of stones. Pouring water on the stones gives a burst of steam, called löyly. For a Finnish sauna inside a condo or house, the Ounas seats one or two people on a footprint of 1.05 or 1.26 m², with a spruce interior and a Harvia stove. The heater needs a hard-wired supply: the Ounas takes a 16 A or 20 A circuit, the Ignis a 25 A circuit and the Haven a dedicated circuit for its 6 kW heater. A 20-year Finnish study of 2,315 men linked sauna use four to seven times a week with a lower risk of sudden cardiac death (Laukkanen et al. 2015, JAMA Internal Medicine). This is an observational study and shows an association, not proof of cause.

Hybrid

The Ignis carries both: an infrared system of about 3,800 W and a Harvia SW45E 4.5 kW stove, run one at a time from one control panel on a single 25 A circuit. It is built for indoor installation.

Outdoor saunas

Weatherproof roof construction of the TUNDRA Haven sauna

For a garden, roof terrace or pool deck, the Haven is built as an outdoor Finnish sauna. Solid Canadian red cedar lines the interior, the exterior is a cedar wood composite, and the roof is asphalt tile over a waterproof membrane. It arrives pre-built. The Harvia Spirit 6 kW heater has a digital control panel with Wi-Fi.

The two-tier bench gives a higher seat for more heat and a lower one for a longer stay.

Timber by model: the Haven uses Canadian red cedar inside. The Ounas uses Finnish spruce inside and is black outside. The Equinox and Valo use hemlock inside, and the Valo is clad in walnut tone WPC outside, which needs no oiling in tropical weather. The Ignis uses thermo-treated Abachi for the bench and backrest.

Installation and after-sales

A sauna stays in your home for many years, so ask who looks after it after handover. TUNDRA is a Singapore company. In Singapore our own team delivers and installs the Equinox and delivers, assembles and commissions the Ounas, Valo and Ignis. The same team handles service, and spare parts are supplied and fitted from Singapore. On the Valo and Ignis, each heater panel and lamp can be replaced on its own. Every cabin comes with a written warranty, set out on its product page, and we offer annual servicing visits in Singapore. Support continues for as long as you own the sauna: email support@tundra.health or use our technical support page.

Questions to ask any supplier: who installs, what the lead time is, who comes out if something fails, and where the spare parts are held.

Sauna and cold plunge at home

TUNDRA ice bath and infrared sauna side by side

Some owners pair a sauna with a cold plunge and alternate between them. That needs two stations: the sauna and a tub kept cold by a chiller, such as the Borealis. See the cold plunges and ice baths.

Frequently asked questions

Can I install a sauna in an HDB flat?

Yes. Compact indoor infrared cabins are our main offer for HDB flats. The Equinox plugs into a standard 13 A socket, draws about 7 A, and is assembled in the room from panels, with no hacking, tiling, plumbing or new wiring. Check four things: the floor space plus about 60 cm in front of the door and a ceiling of about 2.1 m; a grounded socket within reach that does not also feed a large load; HDB's electrical rules, which do not allow appliances rated above 15 A, so hard-wired saunas need checking with HDB first; and the weight, which you can confirm with your HDB branch before you order.

Can I install a sauna in a condo?

Yes. The Equinox suits a condo bedroom, study or living room in the same way. In a condo you can also install a hard-wired cabin such as the Ounas, the Valo or the Ignis, with a dedicated circuit put in by a Licensed Electrical Worker. Tell your managing agent before delivery, follow the condo's renovation and lift booking procedure, and get MCST approval for anything on a balcony or roof terrace that affects the appearance of the building.

Do I need HDB approval for an infrared sauna?

HDB's guidelines do not mention saunas specifically. A plug-in cabin involves no renovation works, and HDB lists equipment up to 150 kg as needing no permit. Check with your HDB branch before you order, and use a licensed electrical worker for any electrical work.

Does a home sauna need a special power point?

The Equinox does not: it plugs into a standard grounded socket. Plug it in directly, without an extension lead. The Ounas, Valo, Ignis and Haven are hard-wired to a dedicated circuit installed by a Licensed Electrical Worker.

Will an infrared sauna make my room humid?

No water is used in an infrared cabin, so it does not add humidity to the room. It needs an ordinarily ventilated room and should not be boxed in. A steam sauna does add moisture, so air the room after use.

Will it fit through the lift and my front door?

The Equinox travels as flat panels. The largest parts are the walls and the front frame, each a little under the 1.95 m cabin height. Measure the lift, the corridor turns and your front door before delivery day and send us the figures. Our team carries the panels in and assembles the cabin where it will stand.

Is my floor strong enough?

The one person Equinox weighs 138 kg net on a 95 x 95 cm footprint. With one person of 100 kg inside, that is about 264 kg per square metre. The two person model is 170 kg net, about 308 kg per square metre with two people. For a raised floor, a timber deck, a balcony or a roof terrace, have the floor checked by a qualified engineer.

Who looks after the sauna after it is installed?

Our team in Singapore. Every cabin has a written warranty, spare heater panels and parts are supplied and fitted from Singapore, annual servicing visits are available, and support continues for as long as you own the sauna. Contact support@tundra.health.
